conjuntos
originated there. Conjuntos
were any groups that played Mexican music but with
a accordian, bajo sesto etc... Rocky was one of
the forunners of the horn band playing Tejano
music. Very different in it's own make up.
Sure there were other bands with horns at that
time like Isidro Lopez to name one but theirs was
in a big band set up much like the "Big
Band" era in the 1940's with the Benny
Goodmans etc. Tejano had a very unique set up in
that it was a scaled down version of the big bands
but, with the music of the Tejanos
like Little
Joe and the Latinaires (may not have
spelled that right). No one seems to make that
distinction. Rocky was one of the very first
groups to bring the Tejano sound at that time to
the West
Coast along with Little Joe who may have
been the very first one when he was recording with
Zarape Records. Anyway why I got off on that trip
I don't know just thought you would like to know.
Rocky gave alot to the Tejano sound and it's
beginnings and, has never been given credit for
it. Thank you for putting all this together for
him.
